JHA Update May 2021: Cautiously Reopening!

Hello, dear friends and clients!
As you probably know, New York State’s guidelines for business operations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic were updated last week to reflect the most recent CDC guidance. (Link: https://www.governor.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2021-05/NYS_CDCGuidance_Summary.pdf) I was expecting industry-specific instructions for massage therapists, but this time the only distinction is between venues that congregate more than 250 people indoors at once and those that do not. (Mercifully, I do not!) Masking and social distancing are the key elements of the new protocol for all businesses.

Small venues such as mine may choose to either operate on the honor system, trusting clients and customers to mask up and maintain distance if they are unvaccinated; or we may require proof of vaccination such as paper Immunization Certificates or the electronic Excelsior Pass (https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/excelsior-pass). As I work in my home and must be comfortable inviting people in, I am choosing for the time being to confirm vaccination status for all clients with either the cards or the pass. If it has been two weeks or more since your final immunization dose*, I would be delighted to see you on my table!

It has been such a long time coming, but I will begin booking appointment slots for existing** clients starting June 1, 2021!!

I received two doses of the Moderna vaccine and reached peak immunity myself in late February. I am happy to share my certificates or pass with anyone that would like to confirm my status! I am also happy to wear a mask for the duration of any treatment and offer one to you as well if it makes us both more comfortable, and I am running a Coway HEPA air filter that is rated to completely turn over the air in my treatment room every few minutes.

It is these conditions that make me comfortable reopening and being in such close proximity to people after 15 months of isolation… Poor Tiger Lily, stuck with me all this time! I am so grateful for the scientists, healthcare workers, and political leaders that got these doses into these arms. We are very privileged.
